The Chevrolet Corvette, in 1973, is in the beginnings of shifting from a muscle car to a sports car suitable for luxurious touring. The soundproofing, body mounts and the the radial tires add-up to an improved ride, although the energy absorbing bumper with the new urethane nose has added about thirty-five pounds to the front end. The 454 equipped Corvette this year is a second slower than last year, but “Road and Track” magazine commented that it is one of the best they had ever tested. The small block engine, particularly the L82 option, may offer better balance than the high torque big block engines do.
